Private Internet Access Now Has 50 Servers in 50 US States

Offering 87 countries is also undoubtedly on the higher end of the scale. All the locations we would expect are there, and then some. Isle of Man, anyone?

PIA Server Locations

The PIA server list has recently expanded, and significantly so. The provider now includes an impressive 125 locations in 87 countries.

Unfortunately, even more recently, Private Internet Access has stopped providing the number of servers they run. So, in that regard, we’re now left in the dark. It’s a curious decision as more providers move towards being more transparent about their network, not less.

As shown by the results of my most recent Private Internet Access speed tests, PIA continues to deliver performance to be reckoned with. And ultimately, known server numbers or not, that’s what matters most.

Offering 87 countries is also undoubtedly on the higher end of the scale. All the locations we would expect are there, and then some. Isle of Man, anyone?

That said, if PIA does not offer a particular country you’re interested in, please head over to my VPN server lists page. There, you’ll find links to server location pages for the over dozen major providers I keep tabs on. It will, hopefully, help you find an alternative that gives you what you need.

If it’s streaming that you’re after, do note that, sadly, there are very few Private Internet Access servers that work with Netflix – or any other service for that matter. Though PIA reviews well in many areas, getting around geo-blocked content is not something they support. They’ve even gone on record to say that.

For worldwide streaming access, I suggest NordVPN. Their 88 strong location count is nearly as good as PIA’s, but their streaming prowess is second to none.

The tables below break down the most up-to-date PIA server list by world region, country, and location. Some servers are virtual, and those are marked accordingly in the right-most column.

If the exact location is unknown, which is the case for most virtual servers, the best information that PIA gives us is shown. Also, countries with multiple locations (like the United States) list extra rows – one for each city.

Private Internet Access Now Has 50 Servers in 50 US States

PIA logo over the United States of America

While legislators play catch-up with cybercrime, Private Internet Access is helping Americans take matters into their own hands with our 50 Servers in 50 States campaign. We now offer physical or virtual locations in all 50 US states.

Our servers across the United States are a convenient way to find the best deals, maintain access to online services, and protect your privacy from the uncertainties of state and federal laws.

Set up your own cybersecurity shield with PIA whenever and wherever you want across the US.

What Is the 50 Servers in 50 States Campaign?

Everyone in the US should have the right to privacy, both online and off, regardless of their state. Unfortunately, the laws that protect your right to privacy in the real world don’t quite extend to the digital one.

The United States lacks a nationwide approach to online privacy. Federal and state regulations surrounding data privacy and security are ambiguous, and they continue to fall short of tackling real-world challenges. Until we get broad, consistent legislation that protects our personal information in the digital world, we need to do what we can individually to defend ourselves.

Not all services are available throughout the US. Many sporting events are subject to blackouts, and certain businesses do not operate across state lines. And if you’re not careful, websites can use your personal information to charge you more for certain goods.

PIA’s 50 Servers in 50 States campaign aims to provide increased convenience and online privacy to citizens across the US. Our goal is to offer at least one connection, whether via a physical server or virtual location, in every state in the US. We’ve even included a separate server in D.C., for a grand total of 51.

You can now get an IP address in any state in the US regardless of where you are.

Why You May Need An IP Address for a Specific US State

Access to an IP address in any US state can spare you the aggravation of missing the big game, provide account access anywhere, and prevent you from paying more for a hotel room, among other things.

Use Case 1: Some bank accounts and credit unions require you to physically be in your home state to provide access to your account. For example, you might not have access to your bank account if the bank doesn’t have a branch in your current location. Having an IP address in your home state ensures you’ll have access to your bank account while traveling anywhere in the US.

Use Case 2: Major sporting events, including NFL, MLB, and NBA games, are blacked out in certain states due to syndication rights. You may even have difficulties streaming them without buffering if your ISP uses activity-based throttling. A VPN unlocks sporting events nationwide. Please note that you will still need a subscription to paid services to watch sporting events.

Use Case 3: Watching local news in other states can be difficult, as most sites show you news stories relevant to your current location. If you’re trying to watch out-of-state news programs, you might need an IP address for your preferred state.

Use Case 4: If you plan on vacationing in another state and want to look up smaller local restaurants’ and shops’ opening hours or get the best prices for hotels before getting there, it’s helpful to have an IP address for that state.

Use Case 5: US citizens have until midnight Pacific time to file taxes. If you live in a state within the Pacific time zone but are currently out of town, having an IP address for your home state ensures you get that extra three hours to file.

One way you can access all your favorite sites and services no matter where you are in the US is to use PIA to get an IP address that matches their location. PIA now offers IP addresses for every state so you can stay up to date on the latest news, access critical accounts, and secure your devices over public networks like Wi-Fi hotspots.

How to Set Up Private Internet Access on Your Device

To get an IP address from your state, or from any other, simply download and install PIA VPN onto your device. We’ve got the best macOS VPN, and you can use your subscription to get a VPN for iOS, as well as for Windows, Android, and Linux too.

Once you’ve installed the app on your device, you can connect to one of our blazing-fast servers in any US state.

Step 2: Set up PIA on your device.

Step 3: Connect to a server in your chosen state.

How PIA VPN Protects Your Privacy

Visual illustrating how a standard vs VPN connection works.

Connecting to one of our servers completely masks your IP address and encrypts your traffic. Even though your ISP can tell you’re using a VPN, they can’t see what you’re doing online. That means you don’t need to worry about activity-based throttling.

Unlike a standard internet connection, PIA uses 256-bit AES to encrypt your traffic as it travels from your device to the target server and back. This is military-grade encryption, the same level of protection the US government uses to protect sensitive data.

Private Internet Access lets you choose your tunneling protocol based on your needs. Extra-secure OpenVPN is perfect for accessing sensitive accounts or websites you’re unsure of, whereas WireGuard®’s high speed is better suited for activities like streaming and gaming.

We’ve got tons of other features, including an advanced Kill Switch, split-tunneling, and an all-in-one ad, malware, and tracker blocker. The best part, PIA now offers users across the US the same level of convenience and access by providing IP addresses from all 50 states.

Don’t Lose Your Right to Digital Privacy

Until the federal government can provide cohesive legislation that protects your digital privacy, PIA is here to help. And if recent legislation is any indication, geo-blocks will be enforced with even greater scrutiny in the future. We now provide IP addresses in every state in the US, so you can protect your personal information and maintain access to your favorite services, no matter where you are.

We’ve been long-time advocates for greater digital privacy in the US. And while our service offers strong protection for your online data, we can never replace your individual voice. It’s important to demand your right to online privacy at a nationwide level. Keep up with the laws, hold companies and government entities accountable, and speak up against the invasion of data privacy.
