Since then, it has been working very poorly. The retention time can not be kept, files that are only a few days old can not be loaded and older ones anyway. Unfortunately, the support gives only insufficient help. One refers there to the fact that one deletes now data from the servers, if these are called too little.
Demon Movie Review: Jarring music, subpar performances, and pacing issues bog down this promising horror film
Despite horror films becoming a staple in Tamil cinema recently, we haven’t seen any white saree-clad ghosts with long hair roaming around haunted mansions. It felt therapeutic that these paranormal figures attained salvation from their eternal fashion statement and the horror imaginations of our filmmakers. But then came Ramesh Pazhaniivel’s debut feature film, Demon, which brings those sartorial choices back with a vengeance.

Why bother with elaborate world-building when the film is riddled with template music and generic visuals right from the introduction? As I chuckled at the irony of laughing during a horror film, the twist was revealed — we were actually watching aspiring filmmaker Vignesh Shivan, aka Vicky’s (Sachin), pitch to a producer. Upon receiving the producer’s approval, Vicky unknowingly rents a haunted flat. And thus, the Demon begins.
As easy as it is to guess the genre of the film from its title, we also see the filmmaker not trying too hard to dole out any surprises. White-dress-donned figures, jump scares, and eerie music have been an inescapable trope of horror genres. However, the real test of a horror movie lies in whether it can maintain audience engagement. Unfortunately, Demon falls short in this regard. It sways from scene to scene without an organic segue. As a result, the narrative moves in an excruciating pace and tests our patience.
If the pacing is a problem, the shortcomings in the writing get exacerbated by the jarring background score. Imagine listening to a beautiful melody, only to suddenly hear a creepy score and witness lightning striking the sky while random tunes scatter and reappear. Unfortunately, this musical transition feels out of place because the script lacks a proper connection between scenes.
While there are moments where Demon shows signs of redemption, the film is unfortunately marred by poor writing. There is a love track for Sachin’s character that is outrightly problematic. Just because ghosts stalk people, it doesn’t mean the hero can follow the heroine on his bike as long as it takes to make the heroine fall for him. Vicky’s friends’ gang and their interactions have no sense of naturality, and their performance and dialogue delivery don’t help things either. The breathing space in the first half gets sacrificed for an unnecessarily convoluted second half and middling attempts to ramp up the horror elements. Things don’t just get overwhelming but indecipherable, too.
However, it isn’t that the makers of Demon don’t try. It is just that the attempts don’t always land properly. For instance, the eerie incidents that Vicky experiences in the new apartment are depicted as his dreams. While this is understandable, the problem lies in the fact that Vicky had multiple dreams that featured various events, which is sans any logic. It is important the writing stays true to the world it creates, and Demon doesn’t really do that. The complications in the writing are compounded by the making. When certain events unfold within a photo frame, akin to a television show, when scenes are oddly interspersed with sporadic drone shots in unemotional settings, that made me ask, “Why?” As events pile up and Vicky somehow tries to get to the bottom of it, we are introduced to a recent real-life horror story that is seeing multiple iterations across many streaming platforms.
A shining aspect of Demon is undoubtedly Sachin’s performance, which is head and shoulders above the majority of the cast, who deliver subpar performances.
Most of the well-made and well-received horror movies have certain prerequisites, and Demon seems to have all of it on paper. But it is important that these aspects are used in the right amounts. It is high time the fashion choices of our ghosts are reconsidered. This might also result in a rejig of how we showcase their demonic aspirations. Let sleeping ghosts lie, perhaps?

This company scammed me out of 4 years of fraud payment to my credit card. I cancelled 4 years ago and I thought I was done with them. I just noticed today that they had taken out a payment from my credit card. after four years! Then I noticed that they’ve been doing this for the last four years. They reactivated my account without my authorization and continued to take yearly payments for no service. I have a lot of activity on my credit card and yes, I failed to notice these scammers. I guess they do this to a lot of people. Filing fraud charges with my credit card company against these scammers!

newsdemon set up
it would help considerably if the set up instructions were updated to match what actually needs to be done. The links provided in the welcome aboard email all show newsrover but newsrover isn’t the product actually supported any more. The domain news groups don’t match what actually needs to be installed to work. Terrible terrible instructions.
It isn’t until after you try to send in a trouble ticket that you find out what to do.

Changed Backbone and no retention since them

I am impressed!
Having been a customer at Giganews since 2006, I realized that a) their retention time was getting worse and worse and b) they charged me USD29.99 monthly even though new customers could sign up for 21.99.
Old files (+5 years), that I thought was lost forever, suddenly appeared and downloaded perfectly on Newsdemon. At full speed (60 MB/sec on a VPN-connection). And at a much more competetive pricing.
Goodbye Giganews – good day Newsdemon. Well done!

After 3 Days i still haven’t received a single mail from Newsdemon, not regarding email confirmation/ account details/ payment that has gone through. Even after the first debit has gone off.
Why would it be taking so long?
Will i even receive anything?

Never got any information or replys from Newsdemon
Recently i purchased a subscription on the newsdemon website. I payed with paypal and followed all the steps displayed.
After waiting for 10 minutes i still didnt receive any email with account details etc. I emailed the support, but they never answered. i even did a claim through paypal, but also without any response.
I did however get a email to ‘share my experience’, so my email is valid in their systems. Thats also why im able to do this review.

No good.
I tried using their contact form but it does not work so here ya go. VERY fluktuating speeds, mosly very low when finally connecting properlu. I have a 35 MBit connection and often, I get 5-7 MBit when downloading from Newsdemon. Worse if I use the connection through SlickVPN that was offered as the first month free, then the speed is down to maybe 2-3 MBit. That is IF I can find a SlickVPN server to connect to, 8 out of to says “No server at selected location. Find another VPN if you really have to bundle. And the signup page said FREE VPN, but it urned out AFTER activation that it was jus the first month that vas free. Very poor quality and service.

Best Usenet provider
I have been a Usenet user since the early days of EarthLink Dial-up. EarthLink provided free Usenet access. After they stopped offering access, I bounced around between various free and paid Usenet providers and some of them were ok, but most had incomplete binaries. I had to use two providers to complete binaries.
Not sure how I found Newsdemon (probably through a search engine) but I decided to give them a try. With their advertisements of 99% completion rates and fastest speeds, I was skeptical at first. After a few months of usage, I was a believer. And still am today.

Not the quality I had hoped for
I find this news server to be poor, after just two days I am so unsatisfied with it, that I will not renew next month, the server has not downloaded even one file while my other server has downloaded hundreds. I am an experienced participant/user, not a novice to the newsgroups, a total waste of my hard earned money.

Rebilling
I had a 50GB block account, I wanted to add 500GB. There is NO option to select a block other than 50GB in the service portal! How can such a basic function be missing? I had to create a NEW account to get 500GB.
There are also some issues with completion on some select new posts, particularly TV – blocks appears to be attacked randomly.

Only rejoined newsdemon based on it …
Only rejoined newsdemon based on it supposedly coming with news rover again which is so easy to use. Now I have to use newsbin pro which I find extremely complicated and difficult to use. As a usenet provider I find it does what it says, just disappointed about news reader software.

“Free” VPN doesn’t work
I subscribed on the premise that I would get a free VPN service however I have not been able to activate the VPN with the supplied login details. i get a logon/password doesn’t exist error”.

Does the job perfect and great value!
I have used Newsdemon on and off for some years now and the service has always been excellent. The only problem I had was, when I tried to cancel the VPN, the software would not allow it! I emailed customer svcs and they demanded an explanation for my decision to cancel. It took 2 days of emails before it was finally cancelled! It’s not like i was in a contract or anything. Because of this I have only left 2 stars.

Fast and reliable
Works just good and fast, and is relatively cheap. One disadvantage though: max 1 IP can be used at the same time, which can cause some trouble with owning 2 houses, I hope that will be changed in the future. For example you can use 50 connections, so maybe it shall be that you can use 25 connections on the first IP and 25 connections on the second IP.

Bad Provider
This site is a scam. I never received a confirmation email and was never able to login. I was never able to reach the customer support, not even after trying to contact head office in USA. I cancelled my Paypal and account. I would not recommend this provider to anyone.

Newsdemon upgraded their servers in…
Newsdemon upgraded their servers in late 2020 so they are now their own backbone. They are also supposed to be adding a second US based server farm early in 2021. This is a great move for the usenet industry and helps keep the industry alive longer. Their previous provider has been rapidly buying up websites in an attempt to create a majority and raise prices on everyone.
My service level has not changed much at all after I logged in and re-downloaded all the headers (the article header numbers changed after their move). I think I may actually be faster than before but it is hard to tell. The support team worked with me to help get this done and I can thank Brent for being very patient and helpful with me.

I have never been able to use this …
I have never been able to use this service because the NewsDemon index sites are blocked, at least in the mid-Atlantic region, by both AT&T and Cox. I have requested assistance by writing several times to customer service, but my messages have not been answered. They have never returned a single phone message or email, and they continue to charge my account despite my effort to cancel the subscription. I finally figured out how to cancel the subscription on my end, no thanks to any support from NewDemon.

Best usenet provider
I was subscribed for a long time with newsdemon and i dont had problems. For some reason i had to cancel, and on all this time, when i was ready to resubscribe i gave a try to another providers. I took some free trial with over 7 providers and nobody gave the result i wanted. Short retention, inexistent newsgroups and incomplete files, so i asked myself, why waste my time with that crap when i was perfectly happy with the demon, so i returned to them, and i’m happily downloading as ever.

Download limit on unlimited account?!
I was a customer for a full two days. That’s all it took! I’m not even mad, that is impressive! But just looking at the homepage of newsdemon should have scared me away. Looks like a giant lure! Even on my way out of my first “plan” – that lasted a day – they lured me into another “plan”, which I accepted.. *facepalm*.. only to cancel after accepting how stupid I have become..
Personally I am heading back to usenetserver asap! (Sorry for strafing!)
EDIT: To be fair, they did fix my problem within 15 minutes after contacting them through their support form, in the evening! I have to reconsider my initial decision to leave. Was 1/5. Could go to 5/5. We’ll see! 🙂
